Monomotapa reasserted their top-three finish expectations after staging another comeback to dispatch Black Mambas in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.

After eliminating Highlanders from the Mbada Diamonds Cup last week in almost similar fashion, Monoz yesterday overturned a 2-1 deficit to post a result that helped them dislodge Chicken Inn from third spot, with 47 points.

Osborn Mukuradare thrust Monoz ahead in the 22nd minute by connecting with his head a Russel Madamombe corner kick.

But Last Chibwiro beat the half-time whistle to equalise for Black Mambas with a headed goal at the end of a cross from Kumbirai Kapikinyu.

Monoz shockingly found themselves down when Mambas assumed the lead in the 57th minute after Innocent Nyoni pushed into the nets with his head a goal-bound corner kick by Godfrey Mangani.

With only six minutes on the pitch after his introduction, substitute Tawanda Nyamandwe finished a miscued effort by Kuda Musharu to level matters in the 69th minute.

The former champions reclaimed their lead four minutes later when Madamombe’s seemingly harmless shot from a Charles Rukwanhi pass, beat Tonderai Mateyaunga in goals for Mambas. They remained at 11th position with 28 points.

With the league title probably out of their sight Monoz, however, made their top three finish intentions clear.

In Bulawayo, relegated Quelaton came from behind to share spoils with Harare City at Luveve yesterday.

The “City Fathers”, as Harare City are known, drew first blood in the 28th minute when Trymore Nyadzawo scrambled in a Silas Hlongwane corner-kick.

The home side, who survived a barrage of City attacks, however, drew level four minutes from time through midfielder Eddie Nkulungo, who took advantage of a lack of concentration from the City defenders to grab the equaliser.
