According to one of Utakataka’s key dancers identified as Nyamatele, all the band members and sound engineering team were hospitalised at Kadoma General Hospital following the accident.

“All our band members who were travelling in a Toyota Elgrant were seriously injured during the accident and only myself and other dancers who were travelling with Peter Moyo are safe.

“We are on our way to the hospital to see what happened,” he said.

A source close to the band said band manager Sukulube Dube lost control of the vehicle after one of its tyres bust resulting in the car overturning once and hitting a tree.

The source said two band members had suffered broken legs and were in serious condition.

“Dube appears to be in a stable condition but there are moves to have the band members moved to another hospital for better care,” said a man identified as Jongwe who answered Dube’s phone.

The band, which had on Friday performed in Harare, drove to Gokwe where there played at the Unity Gala before heading back to Harare.
