After taking an interest in pageants and attending several modelling shows, South Africa-based model James Jim fell in love with the genre and decided to take it up professionally.

Born and raised in Bindura, the model attended Braeside Primary School in Harare and Chipindura High School in Bindura before pursuing his dream.

Standardlife&style’s Tinashe Sibanda (TS) recently caught up with the 30-year-old well-built model (JJ) during his festive holiday in Harare and below are excerpts from the interview:

TS: Can you mention any works you have been part of recently? JJ: I have done various adverts including the Royco, Nigeria advert, Pick n Pay, Ballow World, Edgars, Castle Light, Castle Milk Stout and Carling Black label adverts.

TS: Who are some of the popular figures you have worked with? JJ: I have worked with Nigeria’s Jim Iyke, Ghanians Nadia Baur and Van Vica and also South Africa’s DJ Sbu among others.

TS: Did you acquire any modelling education? JJ: I went to Model Management for my top-graduate and postgraduate certificates in modelling.

TS: What inspired you? JJ: I was very much inspired by the South African modelling industry which always has room for new faces. I am also inspired by my role models R Kelly and P Diddy, who are very stylish musicians.

TS: What is your view on our local modelling industry? JJ: They need to focus more on professional casting and grooming instead of just picking people randomly for commercials. That is why Zimbabwean commercials are not as good as South African ones.

TS: What advice would you give to any upcoming models from Zimbabwe? JJ: They must always be themselves and fight for the best in life.
