The first of its kind in Zimbabwe, the model search attracted an assortment of talent with some models travelling from as far as Gweru.
The model search panelists comprised Zimbabwe Fashion Week founder Priscilla Chigariro-Gessen, Group of Creative’s creative director Jennifer Deiner, and producer Simon Deiner. Kate Worswick, the image consultant conducted initial screening of models.
The selected models will undergo a series of intensive workshops aimed at ensuring they perfect the runway walk and are in pristine shape in time for Fashion Week later this year.
Chigariro-Gessen asserted the importance of the model search in broadening the scope and reach of models in Zimbabwe saying “. . . the model search was a great platform for us to reach out to both seasoned models as well as new, aspiring models.
“As Zimbabwe Fashion Week continues to grow, we will have more model searches throughout Zimbabwe.
“One of the lessons we have learnt through previous showcases is that there is need to have consistency in our models, in line with international fashion weeks.
“The response from this year’s model search was overwhelming, with models throughout Zimbabwe and abroad showing interest.
“This is very exciting, as we hope Zimbabwe Fashion Week not only serves as a platform for Zimbabwean designers, but for our models as well.”
Entering its fourth year, Zimbabwe Fashion Week will be held at Sam Levy’s Village, Borrowdale, from August 29 to 31 and will showcase designers and artists from Zimbabwe and the continent under the theme Fashion Through The Ages.
