The group, which boasts famous faces from the sungura music scene, has promised to give fans the best entertainment menu at the show and through their new release.

Now known as “Rebels”, the outfit is fronted by Jonasi Kasamba and Francis “Franco Slomo” Dhaka.

Kasamba acrimoniously left Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo, while Dhaka had an amicable departure from Sulumani Chimbetu’s Orchestra Dendera Kings.

Other popular names in the group are guitarist Noel Nyazanda and drummer Obert Gomba, who left Macheso’s camp with Kasamba, as well as dancer Tafadzwa Gwanzura who left Chimbetu’s troops together with Dhaka.

Speaking at the sidelines of the group’s rehearsals at Seke Tavern in Chitungwiza on Thursday Dhaka said they were prepared for the bitter battle for fans on the sungura front.

“We promise music fans nothing but the best. We are here for business. We will not be directly confronting any other musician, but coming fully armed for the battle to gain ground among sungura fans,” said Dhaka.

“We believe the experience we have in the group is the best so far, and the energy all the members have exhibited makes us more than ready to claim our deserved share of popularity.”

Kasamba echoed Dhaka’s sentiments.

“We are the creme de la creme of sungura, and we will be the kings. Everyone knows the cream of the local music industry is here and everyone shall savour its sweetness. Music fans missed us on stage and on July 12 we are returning with power,” said Kasamba.

Kasamba composed three songs namely Amen, aJulius and Africa on the upcoming album while Dhaka did Amai VaBonnie, Gurajena, Ishe Ndinotenda and Mudiwa Wangu. Producers of the album are expected to put the final touches on the seven-track production this week, ahead its release and launch.

Organisers of the Aquatic Complex gig said the album would be on sale for the first time at the show.

“We are proud to host Extra Kwazvose for their first show and we are happy that they have decided to sell the first copies of the album at the gig,” said one of the organisers.

“It is going to be a big show considering that it will also feature Sulumani Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah and Peter Moyo.”
