The organisation made a call this week to mid-career theatre directors to apply for the programme that is open and free for all.

Melody Zambuko, the organisation’s programmes officer told The Standardlife&style the programme would run from January 27 to February 1 at the Savanna Trust offices in Milton Park.

“The call is not for highly professional people or amateurs, but it is for mid-career directors who have showcased their work before,” she said.

“The course will also cover skills for the director as an arts entrepreneur and also provide insight into the professional lives of some theatre directors in Zimbabwe.”

Ten participants will be enrolled for the week’s course which will be facilitated by South African-based theatre directing lecturer Roel Twinjnstra.

The project is sponsored by the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and South African based Pro Helvetia.

Savannah Trust facilitates an arts management course to professionally equip local artists and managers in conjunction with the University of Zimbabwe Theatre Arts Department.

The director, Daniel Maposa said 2013 was an active year for them. “We saw the continuation of the arts management course and also had five of our productions on regional tours to South Africa and Malawi,” he said.

Savanna Trust is also promoting human rights, with a number of activities lined-up in Harare, Domboshava, Kadoma, Karoi, Gutu and Hurungwe.
