FC Platinum returned to normal service when they collected their first set of three points with a win over CAPS United at Mandava yesterday.

Donald Ngoma and Qudr Amini’s goals outweighed Dominic Chungwa’s solitary strike. Both teams came into the match with different kinds of pressures.

For the platinum miners, there was desperation for a first win of the season while the Green Machine were in intent on maintaining their unbeaten start to the new season.

Pre-match hype centred on the dismissal of FC Platinum assistant coach Masimba Dinyero but head coach Lloyd Mutasa remained calm for FC Platinum’s first victory over CAPS United.

With 39 minutes into the game, FC Platinum opened the scoring through hard-running Ngoma after neat exchanges of passes with Stephen Sibanda.

Two minutes later, Amini doubled the lead for the home team when his effort from a corner kick was deflected by CAPS United goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube who previoulsy had a short stint with the platinum miners.

Seven minutes before full- time, Chungwa headed in Moses Muchenje’s corner to give the match a nervous ending, but Mutasa’s troops managed to hold on for their first win of the season.

After the match Mutasa appeared a relieved man and said; “We have waited a bit long for this result to come and I am happy that we finally won at home. I also want to thank supporters and the executive for having been patient even when things were not going well,” Mutasa said.

CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro blamed the officials for a poor show.

“There were two to three minutes of shear madness from the boys, but however we were denied a befitting comeback because of poor officiating. I don’t normally complain about officiating but today we were treated unfairly.”
