Assistant provincial police spokesperson for Mashonaland East, Tendai Mwanza confirmed the death of Susan Kadros (44).
Mwanza said on the fateful day Kandros, a self-proclaimed prophetess, held a prayer and cleansing ceremony with eight fellow church members at Nyaguwe River Bridge. After the ceremony, it is alleged that Kandros fell into a trance, dived into the river and swam downstream to the deep end.
On sensing danger, one of the church members, Joseph Pepa (39) also dived into the water in a bid to rescue Kandros.
The prophetess however drowned before she could be rescued and other church members failed to locate her body.
“The church members held a night vigil expecting her to emerge from the water but to no avail,” said Mwanza.
A report was made at Juru Police Station and the police sub-aqua unit retrieved the body which was taken to Murehwa Hospital for post- mortem.
