MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has said his former Secretary-General Tendai Biti and deputy Treasurer-General Elton Mangoma rebelled against him to work with Zanu PF but said the move was doomed to fail.

Tsvangirai, who was addressing MDC-T supporters in Chiweshe to commemorate the June 27 2008 Presidential election runoff violence that left hundreds of party supporters dead, also challenged Zanu PF to admit failure and engage him and his party.

“Mugabe has overseen unprecedented violence which is shocking. Think of Gukurahundi, think of violence after the formation of the MDC. Think of 2008 violence. It was uncalled for,” he said.

Tsvangirai said Mugabe knew he lost the last election, claiming things were not moving in the country because elections were stolen.

“Now there is a problem. While we think we are moving together, we get some other people rebelling. “Others have started chickening out yet we have not achieved what we wanted to achieve. They are now saying Tsvangirai must go but have we achieved our goal of removing Zanu PF?” he said. “You are making all efforts to say Tsvangirai must go, is he Zanu PF?” Tsvangirai said the MDC-T would emerge from the conflict stronger and win the next elections in 2018.

“This is not a party of chancers. I want to tell you that the 2005 rebellion by Welshman Ncube, it was a rebellion to support Zanu PF. The rebellion by Biti and Mangoma, there is no renewal there. If you are few and you can’t pull, you can’t then subtract from the few like what happened in 2005 and 2008,” he said.

“If you want to fight Tsvangirai, you are subtracting from the MDC and strengthening Zanu PF.”

The MDC-T leader said the Zanu PF government should engage others to move the country forward.

“Zanu PF is failing to address the problems one year after elections. In 2008, it was a crisis and you engaged. Concede that you have failed unless you are cruel and want to see people suffer, continue.”

“I will not force you to come to me but the time will come then we will talk but this time, we are not talking about another GNU.”

“We first want to dismantle institutions that have given us problems. We can’t have a situation like this. You have destroyed industries, farms and other things.”
