Kirk Swanson and Gorkhan Terzi are the contenders looking to break Lisa Harris’ nine-year stranglehold on the pinnacle of local thoroughbred racing.

The championship which is decided by the amount of stake cheques a trainer amasses in one racing year is currently hanging by a mere US$6,000 going into today’s season closer.

However, Lisa Harris will be confident of retaining her crown as she fields among other decent runners, top rated filly Print The Pounds and perennial feature race campaigner Allula Borealis in the Breeders’ Sprint.

The main race looks set to be hotly disputed as the Gorkhan Terzi filly Latin Queen goes up against stable companion Eversolucky and the speedy Tallie Two from the Alyson Wright yard over the 16 000m distance. The winning horse will walk away with US$4 800 and the runner up will earn US$1 600 as the season comes to a thrilling climax.

Lisa Harris has amassed an incredible US$235 000 in prizes this season, just edging out Kirk Swanson and third placed Terzi who weigh in with US$229 000 and US$225 000 respectively.

Seven competitive races are lined up today after which racing will go for a month long break before resuming for the running of The Betting World Handicap in September.
