NORMAN Mapeza opened his account as FC Platinum coach with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Bantu Rovers in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup at Mandava yesterday.

Two strikes in five minutes by Qadar Amini and Ashley Mkwenya and another in the dying minutes by Aaron Katebe was all Mapeza’s boys needed to progress to the next round of the tournament.

After the match Mapeza was on cloud nine following his impressive start in Zvishavane.

“It was a good performance from the boys and scoring three goals without reply is quite an achievement in the opening game,” said Mapeza.

Losing coach Methembe Ndlovu praised his charges though in a losing cause.

Mapeza’s charges dominated their opponents from the onset but the platinum miners forwards Mukwenya and Benjamin Marere failed to convert glorious chances that came their way in the opening half.

The former Warriors’ gaffer’s halftime pep talk paid dividends, with Amini converting a spot kick inside the opening two minutes after Hebert Dick had handled the ball inside the box.

Five minutes later, mid-season signing Mukwenya kept his nerve to open his account for his new paymasters with a powerful shot.

Zambian import Katebe added gloss to the score line by capping a remarkable afternoon with a powerful diving header in stoppage time.
