ZIMBABWE’s Thomas Zondo Sakala will battle it out with seven other candidates for presidency of African Development Bank (AFDB), according to an official list released Friday.

The list of candidates followed a meeting by the steering committee of the board of governors of AfDB on February 11 at the bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d’lvoire.

The eight will tussle to replace Donald Kaberuka from Rwanda who is completing his second and final term in May.

A former AFDB executive Sakala has to shrug the challenges from Akinwumi Adesina (Nigeria), Sufian Ahmed (Ethiopia), Jaloul Ayed (Tunisia), Kordje Bedoumra (Chad), Cristina Duarte (Cape Verde), Samurai Kamara (Sierra Leone) and Malian Birama Boubacar Sidibe.

Each candidate is expected to make a written statement on his or her vision for the bank in both English and French, the tow working languages, by March 20.
