THE Zifa Central Region Division One league enters round two this weekend with teams determined to make an immediate impact in the race for premiership promotion. BY MUKUDZEI CHINGWERE
Shabanie Mine’s quest for an early premiership return will be under scrutiny this afternoon when they face ZPC Munyati away from home. The Asbestos miners opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win at home against Mvuma Stars and will hope to maintain a winning momentum.
A blockbuster encounter is on the cards when Gweru United host MSU at Mkoba in a Gweru derby. Both teams collected a single point apiece in the opening round of fixtures and will thus hope to collect maximum points.
MSU were runners up in the last campaign and will be hoping to quickly come back to winning ways, but that will not be an easy task against Peter Manoti’s charges.
Another tightly contested encounter is expected when Sable Chemicals host Chrome Stars in yet another Kwekwe derby.
Sable Chemicals played a goalless draw against MSU last week and will be eager to utilise home advantage and collect maximum points. Meanwhile their opponents will be determined to keep up momentum following their match day win over Ivan hoe.
The Beitbridge derby between Boarder Strikers and ZRP Beitbridge has been postponed but the rest of the teams in the league are expected to complete their second round of fixtures this afternoon.
Three games were played yesterday with Tongogara hosting Vumbachikwe at Battle Fields while FC Platinum U19 travelled to Kwekwe to face Silo United and Ivan hoe hosted Blanket Mine at Amaveni.
