Bagging six gongs at the recently held South African Music Awards with only one album, the trio had so much to prove for the expectant crowd and did not disappoint as they rightfully marked the epitome of the festival’s theme, Articulate.
The show attracted a bumper crowd which clearly appreciated their music that sent most of them to the dance floor. There was plenty of movement, even from the VIP tent.
Opening the performance with their track titled Chelsea Baltimore, the group was surprised by how the cheerful crowd was singing along, prompting the group lead singer Matthew Field to say: “Thank you for listening to us, it is amazing to know that our music has moved this far.”
After singing nine songs to the enjoyment of the crowd, the group wanted to leave the stage but yielded to the crowd’s pleas for more.
It was around that time that the Cape Town-based group took the crowd into a frenzy to the extent that security details had a hard time containing the crowd who were determined to break the barricades in order to catch a closer glimpse of the Pop ensemble.
The track Pluto attracted a wild sing-along, while the sungura-like composition of Beauty Like a Tightened Bow cajoled the fans, undoubtedly endorsing Beatenberg as one of the best in southern Africa.

Beatenberg was formed in 2008 but shot to fame last year with their album The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg, which has master pieces, judging from yesterday’s performance.
Tourism minister Walter Mzembi and several other senior government officials were part of the crowd.
Meanwhile, Hifa media partner — The Standard — organised a clients’ cocktail which was attended by key clients from the banking, retail and manufacturing sectors as well as diplomats.
Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) publisher Rita Chinyoka said this was part of celebrating the arts in Zimbabwe.
“The Standard has been the official media partner for Hifa since 2010 and we are very proud to be associated with this event, which is held yearly as it promotes both the local arts and the country as a whole,” she said.
