Speaking at a press conference ahead of his performance at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) tonight, Keita said Africa needed to unite to confront the problems facing the continent.

“I am touched by what is happening in South Africa. I hope all that will end soon,” he said.

Keita said he passed through South Africa on his way to Zimbabwe and did a collaborative work with Black Smith Mombazo to produce a song against xenophobia.

“Never ever shall Africans reject fellow Africans,” said the Malian-born singer.

Keita, who last performed at Hifa in 2009, promised a great closing show tonight. The musician is also doing collaborative work with Zimbabwean Hope Masike.
