CHAPUNGU maintained their imperious form with a 1-0 win over Flame Lily in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Ascot yesterday.

A solitary first-half strike by former Dynamos striker Allen Tavarwisa was all the army side needed to collect maximum points and jump two places up the log ladder to second position.
Their stay on second position could however last for just 24 hours if Triangle and Dynamos win their respective matches against How Mine and Tsholotsho today and tomorrow respectively.
Yesterday’s win means Chapungu remain unbeaten in their previous eight league matches in which they have recorded six wins and two draws.
Flame Lily meanwhile slid one place deep into the relegation zone to 14th position.
Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino was delighted with his charges’ form.
“I am very happy with the way the team is playing. It is the work of the Almighty. The team is playing well but we are not yet at the level we want to be. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done. Flame Lily also played well, they gave us a good run of our money,” said Nyikadzino.

Losing coach Nesbert Saruchera was happy with his side’s performance although it was for a losing cause. “We did not convert our chances but generally the team played well. We have a young team and there are a lot of positives we can take from this match. My objective this season is to survive relegation and I am confident we will achieve it,” said Saruchera.
Tavarwisa lit up the game in the 27th minute when he shrugged off the effort of Effort Kopeni, slotting a low shot past Prosper Chigumba. The prison wardens came into the second stanza with renewed vigour in search of an equaliser. Mocean Muponda’s shot was saved by Chapungu goalie Roy Mazingi but Flame Lilly failed to capitalise from the rebound. Macmillan Chigova was denied moments later by an in-form Mazingi.
