ACTING Zanu PF Masvingo treasurer and Chivi Rural District Council chairperson Killer Zivhu has declared his interest in assuming the position of provincial party chairperson.

Zivhu confirmed to The Standard yesterday that he was only holding back on campaigning for the post until Zanu PF declared the internal campaigns officially open.
“I will lay down my interests very soon. I think I have the capacity to run the province on behalf of the party if it is decided that a substantive chairperson should be elected,” said Zivhu.
The politician has of late turned into a philanthropist giving out houses and cash to the needy, including those seeking lifesaving treatment outside the country.
After being elected Chivi Rural District chairperson, Zivhu used his influence to get himself the position of provincial rural district chair. Now he has set his sights on the former guerrilla movement’s top provincial job.
It remains to be seen if this may not be a bridge too far, but a buoyant Zivhu said he has a plan for the province whose political fortunes have been on the wane since the demise of flamboyant war hero Eddison Zvobgo and the late Vice-President Simon Muzenda.
“I am eagerly awaiting the party’s pronouncements and already have my ducks in a roll. I have set my priorities, top among them being the relocation of the people of Chingwizi to a habitable area. The completion of Tokwe-Mukosi dam is also among my top priorities,” said Zivhu.

“We also need a clear plan to deal with the millions of orphans in the province given the devastation of disease and the widows who have been left behind”.
Zivhu, who is also the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association (Zaha) director-general, has become one of the most visible political figures in Masvingo through his housing projects. The Wezhira Ndionewo, specifically earmarked for the province’s residents scattered across the globe to give back to the communities they hail from, is also making an impact in Masvingo.
Paradzai Chakona is the current acting Zanu PF chairperson following the expulsion of Killian Gwanetsa late last year.
Gwanetsa was among nine chairpersons deposed through votes of no confidence in the run up to the Zanu PF December congress on allegations that they were part of a group derisively called “Gamatox” linked to then Vice-President Joice Mujuru.
Mujuru was also forced through the trap-door along with her lieutenants, among them secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa and spokesperson Rugare Gumbo. There have been muted suggestions that the group of expelled politicians might regroup to form a new outfit known as People First.
The Mujuru faction was also accused of plotting to assassinate President Robert Mugabe, an accusation that they have all dismissed as fabrication. Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo during his stint as Information minister described the accusations as “political banter”.
