PREMIER League debutants Flame Lily finally remembered how to win after recording a victory over 10-man Chapungu in a exciting encounter marred by controversy at Lafarge on Saturday.

It was the first ever win for the prison wardens coach Backlyfield Chivenga ever since he took over from Nesbert Saruchera seven matches ago.

James Chivasa and Virimai Mukudo scored for the relegation threatened side while Alien Tavarwisa scored the consolation goal late in the game. Chapungu were unlucky to have Patrick Khumbula red-carded after hurling insults at the match referee Nomore Musundire.

In another controversial incident,Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino claims that the referee told his team manager Dumisani Mufudze the he would make sure Chapungu did not win the match.

“First of all, I am not happy about the state of this ground, its so uneven and bumpy such that it’s impossible to play in. I am also not happy with the match official; honestly, how can a match referee tell my manager that ‘I will make sure you don’t win this match’?,” Nyikadzino said after the match.

“He actually said that when we enquired about an incident where our goalkeeper was elbowed by a Flame Lily player,” he added.

Chapungu have not won a single premier league match since their 1-0 win against Flame Lily at Ascot Stadium back in May. His opposite number was on cloud nine.

“It feels good to win, we have been working on it and we never lost hope and we finally got it today,” Chivenga said in his postmatch interview.
