TSHOLOTSHO FC maintained their top-flight status despite being held to a one-all draw by visiting Harare City at White City yesterday.

The hosts had to endure a nervy finish after allowing a late strike by Harare City forward Kudakwashe Kumwala to cancel Kriess Chitiyo’s first half opener.

They heaved a huge sigh of relief after news trickled in that Buffaloes had lost to Dynamos in Mutare.

Tsholotsho coach Lizwe Sweswe paid tribute to his charges for surviving relegation from the top flight.

“First of all, I want to give credit to the boys for managing to stand the heat in their debut season in the Premier Soccer League. I had belief in them and I am very happy for them. They deserve to be in the top-flight league.”

The draw saw Tsholotsho taking their points tally to 31 and relegating Buffaloes to first division after the Mutare-based side remained stuck on 29 points after going down 1-0 to Dynamos.

Chitiyo gave the lead on 25 minutes with a first time effort from inside the penalty box off a Simbarashe Gorogodyo cross.

The equaliser eventually came on the stroke of full-time when Kumwala received the ball unmarked inside the box and coolly controlled before slotting it past Marichi.

Harare City coach Taurai Mangwiro said yesterday’s result was typical of their season in which they lacked consistency.

“We created a glut of chances and conceded and we have been our own enemies because we have failed to finish off teams after putting ourselves in a good position to win,” he said.
