HARARE CITY . . . . . . . . …(1) 4 HWANGE . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (0) 1 HARARE CITY coach Taurai Mangwiro is a relieved man after watching his team respond to last week’s defeat to CAPS United with a Raphael Manuvire-inspired demolition of visitors Hwange at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

The win all but extinguished rumours that Mangwiro’s position at the Harare City coach was under threat, having lost twice and won once after three opening games. A superb Manuvire show saw him score twice on either side of Tendai Samanja and William Manondo’s goals, which he also assisted, to help the team record a big morale-boosting win.

Gift Mbweti grabbed the consolation goal for the coal miners.

Mangwiro was delighted by the emphatic win.

“It was a positive response after losing to CAPS United and obviously, there was a lot of talk. As a team, we just said to ourselves it’s not that we did many things wrong, there are few things which we didn’t do right like issues to do with conversion, let us make sure we improve on our conversion.

“Today, we managed to score four [but] I’m still worried with our levels of concentration towards the end of the match. You saw right at the death against CAPS United, we allowed them to score and today with seconds to full time we allowed the opponent to score, that is worrisome,” he said.

The Sunshine City Boys opened the scoring in the 18th minute when a ball fell graciously on an unmarked Manuvire, who rifled home from close range.

A couple of minutes into the second half, the lanky attacking midfielder cleverly squared a corner to Samanja, who let fly a screamer from outside the box to double the lead for Mangwiro’s men.

With 12 minutes to go to full time, Manondo killed the match as a contest, but Manuvire was not finished as he side-footed into goal Benson Maglas’ cross.
