DYNAMOS came from behind to beat Chapungu in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Ascot Stadium yesterday, a few hours after their fans were involved in a fatal accident on their way to the match.

It was the former champions’ third away victory as they continue to notch up wins on the road although they remain winless back home at Rufaro Stadium.

The win came after the debilitating 0-2 loss to archrivals Highlanders at Rufaro before the PSL break provisionally lifted Dynamos to eighth position on the log standings, 11 points from nine matches with three wins, two draws and four defeats.

Chapungu opened the scoring through left-back Hillary Mugoniwa’s speculative shot in the eighth minute after he had collected a pass from Xolani Ncube on the right.

Second choice Dynamos goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga was deceived by the flight of the ball which he thought was sailing over the bar before it hit the nets.

But Dynamos were not to be outdone, with Masimba Mambare finding the equaliser courtesy of a header in the 29th minute.

Mambare made no mistake in hitting the target after connecting a Godknows Murwira cross from a free kick on the left after Chapungu right-back Jameson Mukombwe was penalised for a foul on the edge of the box.

Three minutes later, young striker King Nasama gave Dynamos the lead with a cool finish from inside the penalty box to beat Chapungu shot-stopper Talbert Shumba after being set up by Ocean Mushure.

Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa was delighted with the win, but expressed grief at the tragedy that befell the clubs’ supporters on their way to the match venue.

“I’m very elated with the win considering that we are coming from the 0-2 defeat to Highlanders and we have not been getting goals. We worked hard on our weaknesses during the break and we gave the youngsters the nod after an impressive show in one of our friendly matches against an academy owned by one of our supporters Romario,” he said.

Mutasa added: “It is very sad that some fans lost their lives and I am at a loss for words. We are sorry for the fans who lost their lives on their way to support the boys. May their souls rest in peace.”

It’s not looking good for Chapungu who have won only one match in nine matches.

Coach John Nyikadzino was a visibly disappointed man after his boys gave their all especially in the second half, but could not get a goal.

“I’m very much disappointed considering that we conceded silly goals inside two minutes. I also think we were not accurate at goal in the second half. We, however, will regroup and lift our heads up.
