A NEW web page for Zimbabwean writers has been launched. Hosted by Venekera Works, an indigenous initiative, the website's address is www.writers.co.zw and is the brainchild of Fungai James Tichawangana, an IT specialist and writer.

The beautifully designed website is expected to facilitate a forum for young and established writers to discuss issues on the writing craft. It will feature profiles, reviews, essays, tips on writing and provide links to other relevant websites on writing.

The site also has a reference section with notes on prominent writers like Shimmer Chinodya, Yvonne Vera, Charles Mungoshi and Tsitsi Dangarembga. Online writing competitions will be conducted for young writers.

The site is expected to play a big role in the promotion and marketing of Zimbabwean writers and their writings. For the first time, there is now a website where one can conveniently find information on local writers at the click of a button.

Tichawangana is one of the first local writers to participate in the Crossing Borders Creative Writing Project, a distance learning creative writing scheme supported by the British Council and Lancaster University in the UK. The writing programme was introduced locally in 2003 and now runs in nine other African countries including Cameroon, South Africa,Nigeria and Zambia.
