BULAWAYO — Siyaya Arts will next month take its breath-taking musical, dance and theatre production — Zambezi Express — on a tour of southern African countries.
The regional sojourn will be followed by a return to Europe where the production was premiered last year.
Zambezi Express, an energy-sapping production is expected to provide theatre-lovers in the region with a treat ahead of the Fifa World Cup to be held in South Africa in June.

With its theme centred on the soccer extravaganza, it is likely to whet the appetites of football fans and theatre enthusiasts in South Africa, Zambia, and Namibia.

Nkululeko Nkala, the Siyaya Arts publicity and communications officer, said the tour would also give the region a taste of Zimbabwean art.

“Rehearsals for the show are already in full swing and all the artists are excited about the forthcoming tours.

“We hope audiences will enjoy these shows. We promise fireworks on stage,” Nkala said.
Before the regional tour, the Zambezi Express will be showcased in Bulawayo for six days.

The Bulawayo shows will run between March 2 and 6 with three special afternoon performances to cater for students.

“Zambezi Express goes on an extended tour of southern Africa, opening in Johannesburg, Lusaka, and Windhoek before returning to Europe for its final season,” Nkala added.

The show has a 25-member cast.

Nkala said: “Zambezi Express is set to pound African beats. The 25-member high-energy performers re-tell the action-packed tale of Mzilikazi, a young boy who dreams of playing professional football in the big city and doesn’t get it easy.

“It is a tense taut story, fraught with danger, drama, and adventure.”

It is important to note that while the show is a masterpiece on its own, it has taken collaborative effort of artists from Siyaya and Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa) to make it special.

The collaboration between the well-travelled groups is a rare feat in the local arts industry.
