RAINBOW Towers Hotel could struggle to spruce its battered image amid revelations that Akon and Sean Paul refused to stay at the hotel after they received information that Jamaican duo, Brick and Lace, was met with dry taps in their rooms during their visit to the country last week
Akon and Sean Paul jetted into Harare on Thursday and Friday respectively for their show that took place at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
Organisers of the Akon-Sean Paul show said they had initially chosen Rainbow Towers as the hotel to accommodate the visiting artists but were forced to revisit their options after reports that Brick and Lace were not happy about their stay at the hotel.
Akon and Sean Paul’s agents are said to have alerted Zimswag, the organisers of the show, that the musicians would not stay at a hotel that had just failed to be hospitable to other visiting artists.
Brick and Lace were in the country two weeks ago and complained that there was no running water at the hotel when they arrived, which saw them being moved to Meikles Hotel.
Likewise, Zimswag opted for Meikles Hotel after Akon and Sean Paul said they would not go to Rainbow Towers.
“We wanted Rainbow Towers because there is bigger parking space and it is away from the hassle and bustle of the city,” said an official from Zimswag.
“We had made the consultations and we had agreed that Rainbow Towers was the right place to accommodate the musicians but the hotel’s reputation was smeared after Brick and Lace dumped it.
“The musicians’ agents told us that they would not take accommodation at Rainbow Towers and we had to look for an alternative.”
Rainbow Towers operations director, Louis Chasakara, confirmed that Zimswag had approached the hotel seeking accommodation but said the inquiry was never followed up.
“They came for quotations but they never made a follow-up,” said Chasakara.
“But that is common in the industry because people can compare rates and choose what suits them.
“I think they were just comparing rates and they chose another hotel.”
However, Rainbow Towers got a consolation in the form of an after-party to the Akon-Sean Paul show that was held at the hotel’s VIP Lounge.
The musicians had standby rooms at the hotel for the duration of the after-party.
