BY OUR STAFF Lovers are in for a treat on Valentine’s Day when Oliver Mtukudzi performs at Garwe Restaurant in Eastlea at an exquisite romantic dinner dance.
Under candle light, couples have been given an opportunity to treat each other to a memorable occasion that has been crafted for the “mature”.
Mtukudzi is known for serenading lovers with romantic ballads like Svovi Yangu and Into Yam’ (in collaboration with Ringo Madlingozi).
He is also familiar with counseling young and old couples through songs like Tozeza Baba and Perekedza Mwana.
With the natural environs and traditional dishes at Garwe Restaurant, the show is likely to take couples through a romantic night.
To add to Mtukudzi’s classic lyrics will be a comic presentation of love issues by a local comedian expected to talk about serious issues on relationships in a lighter way.
Last year Garwe hosted a Valentine’s Dinner where Victor Kunonga entertain-ed couples. Organisers of the event said they had decided to go a step further this year through engaging Mtukudzi after conducting a survey with their clients and realising most of them enjoyed the renowned musician’s songs.
“After asking the majority of our clients about their music tastes, we realised Mtukudzi was popular, so we decided to honour them with a special show on this special occasion when they can bring someone special,” said Garwe Restaurant marketing manager, Alice Benhura.
“Recently we honoured our clients through an awards ceremony where we recognised our outstanding patrons, the dinner will be another way of rewarding them for their loyalty. We also invite some that have never been to our restaurant before to come and experience our great offers.”
Benhura said there would be a prize for the best- dressed couple of the night and emphasised that diners should come dressed in Valentine’s Day colours.
He said the restaurant would, as usual, take people “back to their roots” through traditional dishes that include “road-runner” chickens, rice with peanut butter, hanga (guinea fowl), hare meat and biltong.
Garwe Restaurant has made headlines for hosting celebrities, especially international musicians that have performed in the country. Akon, Beenie Man as well as Brick and Lace, had meals at the restaurant. Last year the restaurant was voted Best Restaurant of the Year at National Tourism Awards.
