With award season well underway, last night’s People’s Choice Awards gave a glimpse of who was truly successful in the music, television, and movie business this year in the eyes of audience members.
However, don’t think for a second that the winners of these awards have any impact whatsoever on professional opinions on who will win big at The Golden Globes, Academy Awards, or the Grammy’s.
The People’s Choice Awards and other awards shows which feature winners from mass voting polls often end up supporting whoever has is most popular in the media or whoever has gotten the most buzz about a performance.
It comes as no surprise that despite that fact that Johnny Depp’s summer blockbuster ‘Public Enemies’ was received much more coldly than expected, Depp still managed to pull off the “Favorite Movie Actor Category.”
Another non-surprising result is the success of anything vampire related in any category. ‘The Twilight Saga,’ ‘True Blood,’ and ‘The Vampire Diaries’ all managed to win at least one award for either their series or their stars. This proves that despite the fact that some people claim that the vampire craze is too much, others disagree drastically and support it as a worthy topic in film and television.
Other notable wins occurred in varying categories of music, television, and movies. Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Sandra Bullock all won awards, while Eminem, Keith Urban, and Hugh Jackman picked up honors in the male categories.

Whatever the strategy behind voting patterns for the People’s Choice Awards, it’s safe to say that there’s much more to come in the weeks that follow with even bigger awards shows.
