Moyo right to criticise Zanu PF old guard for clinging to power PDF Print E-mail

ALLOW me space to congratulate Professor Jonathan Moyo for his recent article in which he unintentionally, but correctly exposes President Robert Mugabe and the former ruling party, Zanu PF. In the article aptly titled Zanu-PF old guard must make way for young blood,  Moyo accuses some “insensitive” Zanu PF leaders who dwell on a selfish past and claim that those who were not in the liberation struggle were not there and should not be there now.
This is exactly what Mugabe and other Zanu PF leaders have said about the MDC-T leadership. Haven’t some army generals loyal to Mugabe already publicly announced that they will not salute someone without liberation war credentials if they are elected into office?
Professor Moyo is right to say that the old guard must make way for new blood. While I do not know the ages of all  Zanu PF leaders, I strongly think that Mugabe must be the oldest in the party’s politburo. He certainly must pave way for younger leaders in his party. If he does not want to pave way for younger leaders in his own party, then that is Zanu PF’s problem, but Zimbabweans who want progress must take a cue from Professor Moyo’s brilliant observation and vote out the old man in the next election.
Even though Professor Moyo’s article is out of bitterness after being left out of the politburo, parts of it make sense, but in parts of it he proves he is bitter and confused. I say he is bitter because not so long ago, while trying to impress Mugabe presumably for a position in the politburo, he made a startling statement that Mugabe must rule Zimbabwe until he dies. It is good that he has made a u-turn and now knows that old leaders must pave way for new blood.
His confusion is demonstrated by the fact that while he clearly accuses Mugabe of refusing to pave way, he still praises Zanu PF as a successful people-oriented party and tries to cover up his direct attack on Mugabe by making futile attempts to denigrate MDC-T officials.
What Professor Moyo failed to point out in the article which shows his confusion is the sad development in which the presidium allowed back into the Politburo people like Obert Mpofu who was allegedly involved in appointments to companies offered business to mine diamonds in Chiadzwa.
Professor Moyo failed to criticise appointments of corrupt officials who have allocated themselves business stands throughout Zimbabwe, and their counterparts who have been named by senior officials in the same party as multiple farm owners.
Professor Moyo could have used his research and analytic skills to dig out how other officials were involved in the Zupco scam a few years ago for all to see.
Yes, Professor Moyo, Mugabe must pave way for young blood to lead Zimbabwe to prosperity.
