Not so provisional Provisional driver's licence fees are too exorbitant. I suggest $20 for at least four attempts. That would be fair. Driving is a necessity not a luxury. — Milmut.
******* What is happening to toll fees? There are enormous potholes on the Harare/Banket road. We are being fleeced again! — Nan.
Still waiting
We are still waiting for Mhangura Post Office to be upgraded into an internet café as promised by ICT minister Nelson Chamisa last year. — Marginalised.
Curse of the Z It seems that the Zs are letting the nation down. These are Zifa, Zanu, Zupco Zesa. —Tasvuzva nemaZ, Harare.
******* Lotto stinks! The small prizes paid out are a disgrace. They need to treble the amounts paid each week. Seems the big prize is just a figure to lure one to buy tickets. — Punter.
Mugabe running show
It is unfortunate that the PM Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC-T still insist he is head of government when realities on the ground clearly show that he is not. Mugabe is running the show with disastrous results for our economy and the powerless PM shoulders all the blame. It’s unfair. I believe if Tsvangirai were really in power this country would be a better place for us all. Tsvangirai cannot stop the farm seizures, the looting at Chiadzwa, the looming company takeovers, disregard of court rulings, and the total impunity of thugs responsible for political violence. Tsvangirai must not be blamed for civil servants’ plight. Why? Because he is not the de facto head of government. — Mafirakureva.
******* CAN Savior Kasukuwere safely say the indigenisation legislation he has put in place is the best thing to attract investment at this time in Zimbabwe considering the animosity and mistrust that exists? Is it going to improve the country's economic fortunes? Zanu PF should stop using the povo to run the country because the povo elected them to run the country. The Zanu PF povo is a minority so they can’t be consulted on behalf of the majority. They lost the election. — Pro-povo.
Production costly
Government should consider other short-term measures in dealing with the electricity supply crisis. To be honest there can be no meaningful economic growth taking into consideration the amount of fuel that some are using to power their generators, especially if one adds the cost of production of goods that are produced using electricity from generators. — Manufacturer.
******* If Tsvangirai has to call for the lifting of sanctions then Mugabe should also openly call for the cessation of violence and openly advise the police to start arresting perpetrators of violence and invaders of farms, for these are also contributing to the suffering of the people just like the sanctions are allegedly doing. If that is not done then EU and American sanctions should not be lifted. What guarantee do we have that Zanu PF is going to behave when they are hounding people? — Anonymous.
******* When you are in adversity you know neither your enemies nor friends. Such is what Zanu PF has become.— Jokoburg.
******** Zanu PF continues to act as though they won the elections. Who are they to dictate to the nation? The MDC must learn to take up the authority the people gave them. No backing down. — Justice.
Let the people write
ZANU PF and MDC you wrote your constitution on the Kariba Dam. Can you allow the people of Zimbabwe to write theirs? This will give an opportunity to compare how you intend to govern them and how they want to be governed. The referendum will be the opportunity for people to choose between yours and theirs. Thereafter you know how the country will be governed including you when you become the governed which you will one day be. You can’t all die in office. — People-driven.
******** THE government must probe how Zesa in Masvingo it is being run. Contract workers are hired and fired willy-nilly. — Frustrated, Masvingo.
******** TOLL gates are a good idea. They will benefit the reconstruction of our road network. So what is stopping widespread repairs and reconstruction, and why? — Noel Moyo, Athlone, Gweru.
Council self-centred GOKWE Town has been Zanunised. The Council should have residents at heart. It started off as the best council in the Midlands but now it’s the worst. Questions about purchase of a fire engine, a tractor and salaries for its senior officers have raised eyebrows. — Observer.
Probe school THE Minister of Education needs to investigate St Augustine’s High School in Mutare to find out what on earth is going on there. There are reports of students going for days without food and the School Development Association is doing nothing although parents paid school fees. — Disappointed.
ZANU PF members and supporters are not ashamed of themselves. Listen to President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation address. He tasked the nation to discuss nationalisation issues instead of ramroding as suggested by the ANC Youth League. This is different in Zimbabwe where what Zanu PF says is law. The South African policy of indigenisation brings out the best decisions. Despite boasting that we are the second highest educated nation on the continent we remain driven by primitive methods of solving our problems. I challenge Zanu PF to do the right thing during the constitution-making process and allow the nation to go forward with the future of our children at heart. Let’s not be driven by selfish motivations. – Patriot.
ZESA bills are shocking. Whenever I go to Wynne Street to pay my bill I confirm the balance the same day with Megawatt House in Samora Machel Avenue. But the amount triples more than a civil servant’s monthly salary. – Worried, Glen View, Harare.
