ZIMBABWEANS are alleging that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is a Zanu PF mercenary force. This allegation is amply evidenced by the huge number of ZRP members involved in political violence against non-Zanu PF parties and by its outrageous payment demand for providing protection to the thematic outreach teams despite the fact that protecting people and property is their core business.

They also disguise themselves by attending outreach meetings without uniforms to spy on non-Zanu PF people. Their allegiance to Zanu PF as opposed to the country is crystal clear. Can this country afford to keep and pay such a partisan force? Never!

I think Zimbabwe must change this outfit to a police service in the next constitution. The police commissioner of the new police service will have to be shortlisted and recommended for appointment by a police services commission. -—AK, Wezhira.
