I don’t know why women should advocate for 50% representation in parliament. I respect women very much and believe in their capabilities to match men, but the way they want to get into power shows they lack confidence in themselves. Parliamentary posts should not be guided by the constitution but should be guided by people in constituencies.
It’s capability that qualifies someone for a post in parliament. The Ministry of Women’s Affairs should lobby for more participation of women in politics. People like Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga, Olivia Muchena, Oppah Muchinguri, Theresa Makone got their way into politics without a constitutional act that safeguards their positions. We need gender activists not feminists.
