WHILE applauding the decision by the Kimberley Process to grant Zimbabwe permission to auction its diamonds.
I find it puzzling that the Mines Minister invited delegates from other African diamond-producing countries to visit the Chiadzwa Diamond fields while barring our own Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy.
How then do we deny the various accusations that the whole diamond issue is mired in controversy? The minister must be hiding something or has utter disregard for his colleagues.
His reason that the committee members are likely to steal diamonds gives the impression that local legislators are thieves. Minister Obert Mpofu is also an MP and a member of some parliamentary committee; how does he feel if he is barred from performing a national duty?
