ZIMBABWE should just move on! We know about the liberation war but for God’s sake, we must live in the 21st Century not the past; our president should stop being racist but should pass down authority to the young and wise with new ideas then there’ll be change in Zimbabwe. A true leader is not selfish! — Anon
****** COULD someone please tell me when commuter omnibuses were given permission to use Rossal road as a route. — Linda, Greendale.
****** CAN The Standard investigate who owns or runs the Zim Youth Games. The power squabbles between the powers that be ruined the games. It was chaotic. Students were seen loitering around after 10pm in the streets of Harare. At one of the venues, Belvedere Teachers’ College condoms and empty beer cans were everywhere. — Mabamba, Chipinge
****** ORGANISATIONS representing civil servants have turned a blind eye to our plight. We only hear of them when they hold workshops where they spend our hard-earned cash which they get through subscriptions.— Teacher Bernard, Norton ****** ZIMBABWE’S Defence Forces have become a force that is working against the constitution which they are employed to defend. Rather than call them people’s forces whose responsibility is to defend the country and its people, Zimbabweans prefer calling them tools of coercion and repression. Jestina Mukoko’s experience is a case in point. Zimbabweans recount the forces’ brute cruelty against civilians in the Gukurahundi era, their actions in all elections since 2000 especially the 2008 general election and run-off, the unending farm invasions and their disrespect of a constitutionally appointed PM as occasions when the securocrats worked against the citizenry.
Since the forces are commanded and composed of mainly former freedom fighters, I am surprised at their dramatic change of heart. During the war years, kind-hearted comrades like Henry Muchena, Shelton Chidoro and the late Tichatonga Mabhunu to name a few, would have vehemently opposed this mayhem. Has everybody forgotten the song Kune nzira dzamasoja dzokuzvibata nadzo (there is a code of discipline for fighters) Poor comrade Musa must be turning in his pauper’s grave! — AK Wezhira.
****** CAN Zesa explain its load-shedding in the Glen Lorne area. Each day we are cut off for hours on end. Can we kindly be told why. — Zvanyanya.
