BCC to boost water supply

Water woes

BULAWAYO City Council yesterday began boosting water supply to parts of the city currently experiencing serious shortages following leakages and power supply outages at pump stations.

The most affected areas include Nkulumane, Nketa, Emganwini, Pumula, Pelandaba West and Old, Mpopoma South, Khami, Cowdray Park, Gwabalanda, Entumbane, Lobengula, Magwegwe, Luveve, Njube, Mabutweni and Matshobana.

In a notice to residents, town clerk Christopher Dube said council hoped to restore and improve water supply to the affected areas at the weekend.

Council recently experienced challenges when pumping of raw water was stopped following a serious leak on the Flowserve line supplying Criterion Waterworks with raw water from Esigodini.

“Further to the repairs to the leak, Criterion Waterworks was affected by a power outage on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 1200 hours to 1800 hours that further compromised water production and availability to most suburbs,” Dube said.

In July, Dube announced severe water cuts in the mentioned areas as the local authority was experiencing reduced raw water delivery to one of its main reservoirs due to another pipe burst on the Flowserve line.
