A 22-year-old Dzivarasekwa man will soon appear in court facing charges of raping his three-year-old niece.
It is the state’s case that the little girl whose parents are both in South Africa lives with her father’s parents in Chihota. In June, her mother’s parents who live in Dzivarasekwa requested that she visits them but her grandmother decided to leave her in the custody of her uncle and one of her aunties.
The aunt went out one of the days leaving the child in her uncle’s care.
The state will seek to prove that the uncle took her into his room and raped her. Her father called his parents from South Africa after hearing that his daughter was ill.
They took her back into their custody but after four days, her grandmother noticed that she was sitting with difficulty and inspected her. The girl claimed that her uncle had raped her.
A medical examination confirmed that she had been sexually abused.
Magistrate Rogers Kachambwa remanded the suspect in custody to September 10 and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Magirazi took possession of the vehicle which he later sold to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and he received payment of Z$9 525 000 000 000 which was equivalent to US$55 000 at the time.
He allegedly converted the money to his own use and kept lying that he was yet to receive payment for the vehicle until Rugonye decided to report him to the police this year.
Magirazi was remanded out of custody to September 23 on $200 bail.
Two arrested on rape charges
TWO men from Overspill in Epworth last week appeared in court accused of raping of a 17-year-old girl from the same area. It is the state’s case that on August 17, Cephas Chipata (27) who is a friend to the girl’s father arrived at his friend’s house at 3pm. He found the girl and told her she was wanted by her father at Overspill shops.
The girl allegedly got into Chipata’s car and they drove to the shops but did not find her father.
Chipata then drove to a nearby home industry and stopped at a shop which had asbestos in it. He told the girl that he wanted her to work at the shop as a saleslady but she refused.
They went back into the car and drove to his friend’s place also in Overspill. On arrival, the girl sat on the floor.
Chipata’s friend Davison Rupiya (36) who was in the house left soon after their arrival. He allegedly locked the door from outside.
Chipata then started caressing the girl telling her he wanted to marry her before lifting her and putting her on the bed. He allegedly raped her once.
