Motor Action……..............(2) 2 Hwange ……………...................0
MOTOR Action made light work of the visiting Hwange despite resting a number of their key players in a premiership match yesterday.
Absent from the starting line-up for the Mighty Bulls at Motor Action Sports Club were goalkeeper Marlon Jani and defenders Edward Tembo and Norman Njelele who watched the match from the terraces. Regular captain Salimu Milanzi started from the bench and the Mighty Bulls were also missing head coach Joey Antipas who is away in Liberia on national duty. The home side got their goals all in the first half from in-form midfielder William Kupera (30 minutes) and forward Charles Sibanda seven minutes later. Before the two goals, the home side also had Allan Gahadzikwa’s penalty saved by Hwange goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda on the 24th minute after Andrew Chuma had handled in the box. Kupera opened the scoring with a beautiful volley from outside the box that gave Sibanda no chance. Hwange defender David Boriwondo failed to deal with Milton Ncube’s cross from the left and his weak clearance header fell onto the path of the Motor Action midfielder. Kupera was ecstatic after the match and dedicated the goal to his team-mates. “I have been working hard all along and last weekend against Lengthens I was unlucky because I tried a similar shot, but it did not go in,” Kupera said. After that opener it seemed like the Hwange players went to sleep and allowed the Mighty Bulls a lot of space in the attacking third. It came as no surprise when Sibanda made it 2-0 when the entire Chipangano defence was ball watching. Masimba Mambare and Kupera combined well on the right flank and the later sent in a harmless cross into the box. Three Hwange defenders Boriwondo, Gerald Ndlovu and Tony Sibelo somehow allowed the ball to pass them. The Mighty Bulls forward who was lurking in the box had enough time to control the ball and turn to his favourite left foot before firing past an exposed Chipangano goalkeeper. In the second half the Mighty Bulls switched off the gas and absorbed everything thrown at them by Hwange. Motor Action assistant coach David George said: “It was a good thing that we took a healthy lead in the first half and in the second half my players reduced the tempo thinking they had already won the game. “It’s normal in a game of football to have two completely different halves. At the moment we are not thinking about the league, but just taking each game as it comes,"George said. His opposite number Hwange coach Tenant Chilumba bemoaned the long journey from their base to Harare for the defeat. “Looking at the distance from Hwange to here I think I contributed a lot in this defeat,” Chilumba said. Meanwhile Kiglon drew one-all with Lengthens at Rufaro yesterday.
