ZIMBABWE’S National Association of Secondary Headmasters (Nash) schools athletics calendar comes to a close on Tuesday with a track and field championships contest at the National Sports Stadium
that coincides with the closure of the first term.
The event always rises to the occasion as schools battle for the leaders’ crown in the highly-competitive schools’ athletics arena.
The Nash athletics programme has been a springboard for churning out talent with some athletes being absorbed by established clubs in Bulawayo and Harare.
Local stars that have made it through the schools athletics include ex-Kuwadzana High School student Cuthbert Nyasango who is now competing on the international circuit.
His former Kuwadzana schoolmate Jane Makombe also carved a niche through the schools’ competitions as did Faith Kamangira from the same school.
Selection for next week’s competitions started at district levels before going zonal and later on to provincial level.
