Gorowa turns to coaching

FORMER Zimbabwe international forceful striker Ian ‘Dibango’ Gorowa has turned to coaching and is pursuing footsteps of several local coaches who have shone in the lucra

tive South African league.

Gorowa, the former Black Rhinos and Dynamos bustling forward is currently the youth development coach at Ajax Cape Town in the South African premiership.

Speaking from the popular Inkamva complex, the training fields at Ajax, he said he was enjoying his new job as a mentor.

“I am enjoying the job. A coach is the boss and I call the shots. I make decisions and tell everyone what to do,” said Gorowa.

“Coaching is exciting especially when working with young people. It’s difficult to convince older players and make them appreciate your role.” said a highly-spirited Gorowa.

Still sporting his trademark clean-shaven head, Gorowa harbours aspirations of rising at Cape Town Ajax.

“My dream is to become the main man at Ajax. With time I can make it but at present I am concentrating on junior development,” he said.

Dibango, who first played for the team when it was still known as Cape Town Spurs seven years ago, is in charge of all the age group teams in the skills development academy of the professional outfit. The South African giant is a sister and feeder team of the popular Dutch giant, Ajax Amsterdam.

Gorowa, who also had a stint at Rapid Vienna in the Austrian league in 1998, is in charge of the Under 17, 19 and 20 teams and also oversees the proceedings in the other youth teams.

His roles include taking the juniors and their coaches through the drills of the game each morning.
