TOP triathlete Rory Mackie has pulled out of the provisional Zimbabwe squad for the Olympic Games set for Athens in September.
Mackie has failed to recover from a shoulder injury inflicted by an elephant while on holiday i
n Kariba last November.
The former world junior champion participated at the last Olympics in Sydney and was one of the Zimbabwe’s medal hopefuls for Athens after having been shortlisted to travel to Athens.
Triathlon Association of Zimbabwe president Rick Fulton expressed his dis-appointment in Mackie’s misfortune.
“‘Obviously we are disappointed. Rory had qualified and we had high hopes on him. He was supposed to participate in world cup events in July and November but he will not be fit enough for that nor for the Olympics,” Fulton said.
“Youth is still on his side and he was actually going to be one of the youngest there. Hopefully he will be in Beijing in four years’ time.”
