BARELY two months after reaping rich rewards for qualifying for the African Nations Cup finals, the national soccer team players have once again harvested bountifully for wi

nning the Cosafa Castle Cup.

IndependentSport has established that the Warriors have been paid for the Cosafa victory winning bonuses ranging between $3 million and $5 million per individual.

In august the Warriors were paid amounts ranging between $2 million and $5 million for qualifying for the African Nations Cup finals in Tunisia next year.

The Warriors received R360 000 for winning the Cosafa Castle Cup in the final against Malawi at the National Sports Stadium in Harare a fortnight ago.

Edgar Rodgers, the chief executive officer at the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) confirmed this week that the mother association had paid the Warriors their winning bonuses.

“We have paid everything that was outstanding. Indeed, that includes the players’ winning bonuses as well as air fares to individuals such as Peter Ndlovu who had used their own funds during the tournament,” said Rodgers.

Rafiq Adam, the Warriors team manager also confirmed that the Warriors had been paid.

“We had an agreement with Zifa that the players would be paid as soon as possible, and it (payment) has already been fulfilled,” said Adam.

Although both Rodgers and Adam wouldn’t divulge the exact amounts paid as winning bonuses, sources within the Warriors revealed that the players received amounts ranging between $3 million and $5 million depending on the number of times each player was available for the cup.

“The amounts ranged between $3 million and $5 million, depending on the number of occasions an individual was available for the Cosafa Cup,” said a highly-placed source within the Warriors.

The Warriors swept past Angola in the first round before overcoming regional giants South Africa in the quarter-finals.

The trail-blazing team went on to claim the scalp of Swaziland in the semi-finals.
