No easy stroll for Gumbo in crunch Rwanda match

Staff Writer

THE Warriors make another long trip to Central Africa to face Rwanda tomorrow in a World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifier.

na, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif”>Interim head coach Rahman Gumbo has a mountain to climb if he entertains hopes of landing the job on a substantive basis.

The Rwandese have proved that they are no minnows in the beautiful game and their 3-1 drubbing of Gabon in Kigali gives them a glimmer of hope.

Rwanda’s victory catapulted the team to third position on the log behind Angola and Nigeria while the Warriors collected two points from two matches against Gabon and Algeria.

But the Warriors seem to have changed since Gumbo and Brenna Msiska took over the reins on a caretaker basis last month. The pair have introduced the attacking flair into the team that was well-known for its defensive formation.

The Warriors are buoyed by their 5-0 destruction of Swaziland in the Cosafa quarterfinals on Sunday.

The team’s cause rests upon the shoulders of Peter Ndlovu who played a blinder in the mauling of Swaziland on Sunday.

Shingi Kawondera, who has struck a rich vein of form, will ably assist the inspirational skipper. The Poland-based hitman saved Zimbabwe from the jaws of defeat in Libreville last month.
