Amakhosi shoots new film

Pindai Dube

AMAKHOSI Theatre production has started shooting a thirty-minute film Muzukuru Chipo at a village setting in Robert Sinyoka area, some 20 kilomet

res on the outskirts of Bulawayo.

The film was written and produced by Thembelihle Moyo, a student of script writing and filming at Amakhosi Performing Arts Academy, who is also a holder of Amakhosi’s second best student screen play award.

The majority of the technical staff involved in the production of the film are drawn from Amakorokoza project that screens every Tuesday on ZTV.

The producer of the film, Moyo said the idea to produce this film is due to an increase in the abuse of the girl child and that is the main theme of the movie.

“Girl child abuse is on the increase in Zimbabwe that’s why I wrote this film. Some parents are no longer respecting us girls.

“Daily we hear of girls being sexually abused by their fathers which is so painful to all women, even in these modern times some parents still don’t recognise our importance,” said Moyo.

Some of the technical staff who are involved in the shooting of the film include Ndumiso Ncube, the director of photography, Khulekani Mlotshwa, the cameraman, Paul Chimboka, the sound engineer and the script editor, Cont Mhlanga. Mhlanga is also the producer of Amakorokoza.

Moyo said her aim is to take the project and showcase it at the Zimbabwe International Film Festival in August this year and Sithengi Talent Campus, a talent grooming institution in Cape Town in South Africa.

“I am going to take the short film to ZIFF which will be held in Harare in August this year and to Sithengi Talent Campus in South Africa, a talent grooming institution which also runs workshops on how to market and write films to international standards,” she added.

In the production crew are students from Amakhosi Academy who are studying sound making, on location shootings and film settings. Moyo said they did this so as to equip them with practical knowledge of the film industry.
