St John’s stages show

THE popular Andrew Lloyd-Webber/Tim Rice musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be staged by Harare’s St John’s College as its second term production.

The show will run in the school’s

hall for two nights only, tonight and tomorrow (7pm both nights), and will be an entry in this year’s Schools’ Theatre Festival, which is sponsored by African Distillers as a community service.

The focus of the musical is the Old Testament story of Joseph, one of the 12 sons of Jacob. His brothers’ jealousy sees him sold off into slavery, only to rise to fame because of his ability to interpret dreams. The show was written for a school by Lloyd-Webber and Rice in the late 1960s and in the past 30 or so years it has been staged countless times around the world. — Own Correspondent.
