SOUTH African kwaito outfit, Malaika, is expected in the country today for a one-off show at the Harare International Conference Centre tomorrow.
The popular group will team up with SA’s lady of the moment, Chomee who is rocking the regional music industry with her spectacular dances.
It would be Malaika’s second time to perform in the country this year while Chomee, whose real name is Thulisile Madilhaba, makes her debut tour.
Malaika entertained audiences with a polished act at the Harare International Festival of Arts three months ago and are out to enhance the excellent standards it set at that show.
Show organisers Native House Promotions said the show would be a precursor to many other international music programmes lined up for this year.
Native House spokesperson Jerry Tondori revealed that plans were afoot to bring in another set of popular SA musicians.
“We are doing our best to make sure that we bring international talent to the local arena,” said Tondori.
“We have contacted a number of international artists and we will be having more of such shows. The shows schedule will be published soon but at the moment we have decided to bring these two bands to perform for the very first time.
“Chomee and Malaika have not shared the stage even in SA and we are expecting fireworks,” Tondori said.
Tondori is part of the Zimtownship label that has promoted musicians like Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Bongo Maffin and Mafikizolo internationally.
Although it will be the first time for Chomee to perform here, the lady is likely to leave lasting impressions if the popularity that she has garnered down south is anything to go by.
The musician and dancer started her career as a dancer to singer Arthur Mafokate.
The groups will be supported by local artists that include Extra Large, Madiz, Junior Banton and Banyana Bafana among others. – Staff Writer.
