Sadomba’s Nations Cup battle cry

Sport
BY BRIAN NKIWANE WARRIORS fans have appealed to Edward “Duduza” Sadomba to fill the void left by Knowledge Musona who was ruled out of the Zimbabwe crunch Nations Cup qualifier against Mali on March 26.

The fans made their feelings known on Sadomba’s facebook wall where they put up messages unofficially bestowing him as the “saviour” of the Warriors.

Musona sustained a dislocated shoulder after a tackle from Free State Stars’ Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in a league match that ended in 1-1 draw.

The injury left fans pinning their hopes on the jet-propelled winger.

“Now that Musona is injured, we put you (Sadomba) into his shoes for us to qualify,” read one of the messages.

“Duduza can you do us a favour, we want to go to the Nations Cup,” was yet another message posted on his fan page wall.

Many other messages implored Sadomba, who can score or create goals at will, to take up the challenge and help the Warriors beat Mali next week.

Last week the Zimbabwe international told Standardsport he was ready for the task and would not disappoint the fans. He said he had  the energy to stir the Warriors to victory in Bamako.

“I know that the country is putting all its hopes on me, the first thing that I have to do is put all  my trust in God and I know everything will follow. I still have the steam for my country and we have to go there and win,” Sadomba said.

“Taking into consideration that it will be an away match, we will not be under pressure from home fans, but I can assure you we will do our best.”

Sadomba was also confident that coach Norman Mapeza would  find a suitable replacement for Musona. “Again I hear Cuthy (Cuthbert Malajila) is back from Libya. I think he will be a better partner upfront.” Malajila was called to join the Warriors last Thursday, a day after this interview.

It is not difficult to understand why the fans have turned to Sadomba in the absence of Musona.

Sadomba has played in all the two qualifying matches in Liberia and when the Warriors played Cape Verde at home where he came in as a second-half substitute. The former Dynamos hotshot has been in devastating form for his Sudan club this season.

The tearaway winger was on target for his club Al Hilal last Wednesday scoring a brace with his other teammate adding another one to register a 3-1 win over Al Mawrada.

Sadomba is not only  a hero in Zimbabwe but in Sudan as well. He claims he hardly ventures out in the streets during the day for fear of being mobbed by football fans wanting his autograph.

Musona was the scorer of the Warriors goal in the brave draw against the Lone Star in Libreville last September, which stands as the only goal for the Warriors in the current 2012 Nations Cup campaign.

He also featured for the Warriors against Cape Verde at the National Sports Stadium but Lady Luck was not his side as he missed a number of glorious chances that could have handed the Warriors three points. The game ended nil-all.

The Warriors are expected to go into camp in Harare tomorrow ahead of their crucial Group A qualifier against the Eagles of Mali in Bamako six days later.
