Filmmaker takes 10 actors to South Africa

BY KHULANI NKABINDESouth African filmmaker, Stephen Visser who came into the country two weeks ago on a talent scouting mission says he has now found the 10 actors he was looking for.Visser however could not be drawn to release the names of the actors but said the chosen few  would soon be making their way to Mzansi.

“We have now identified the talent we have been looking for,” he said. “We will take them to South Africa very soon.

“They will feature in some dramas and soaps Down South. Some of them will be absorbed as extras”.

He said those who did not make it should not lose heart as he would be back in a month’s time to carry out auditions for a film that would tell a Zimbabwean story.“I will bring with me Paul Grootbroom, the resident director at the South Africa State Theatre.

“He will oversee the whole project. I will also bring a few acting stars from South Africa who will also feature in the film,” Visser said.He said the project aimed at uplifting the local film industry.

“I have also noticed that the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation is grossly lacking in locally produced sitcoms and dramas.

“The actors that we will get when we come for the second time will fill that gap through the films we will produce together,” he said.

Actors in the country complain about the unprofessional treatment they get from producers and directors, he said.
