Learning golf with Mabikacheche

Sport
Let us say you are playing together as four friends A, B, C and D. If A hits the ball six times before it gets into the hole, and B three, C five, and D seven times, the results of that game would be like this: B is the number one winner with three hits; C will come at number two with five hits; A with his six hits will get the third position, and finally D with seven hits will be in the fourth position.

However it is worth mentioning that there are times when a player is able to hit his ball straight into the hole. This in golfing terms is called a hole in one, meaning that the player has been able to hit the ball from the starting point (teeing ground) into the finishing point (the hole) after one hit (stroke).

If you are going to start playing this sport in the rural areas or any other places where there would be no defined and prepared golf course, you can create your own teeing ground by specifying any area you and your friends are going to use as the starting point.

You can then declare a certain point, say a tree some hundred metres or so away as your specified finishing point “hole”. This is how the sport developed. As times go by, you can prepare your starting and finishing points by removing some trees, shrubs and grass, and open a hole within the cleared finishing  area which is called a putting green in golf terms.

Preparing fairways is not important at this stage. A fairway is a cleared area between the starting point and the finishing point. In summary, I need to assure all who are going to follow the lessons that golf is not a complicated sport. There is nothing to be worried about. It can be played by people of all ages.

I therefore call upon everybody to have a go at the sport and you would be surprised as to how good you are at it. In the next article I shall deal with the fundamental basic which is a must, “How to hold the stick/ golf stick/ golf club.” A detailed understanding of this is paramount as it lays the foundation of how enjoyable this game can be.

I wish you all a good early start. Don’t be left behind, whichever part of the country or world you are in. A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step.
