This year’s junior rugby tournament will run from May 2 to May 7 at Prince Edward under the theme “New in Time, New in Kind.”
Head of the organising committee, Sebastian Garikai said they have invited four teams from southern Africa to grace the tournament.
“We have invited Botswana Under-19, Zambia Under-19, Nigeria Under-16 and an Under-16 side from Kenya called Hodari Boys, meaning Co-operative,” Garikai said.
Garikai said 156 teams are expected to take part in the tournament, including some rural schools.
“We have teams from Mahusekwa, from Chihota Communal Lands, Chipadze from Bindura and Mandedza from Seke Communal Lands,” Garikai added.
This year, the tournament will have six girls’ teams, a thing which has never happened before at this event.
The teams will play three matches, each divided into 12 minutes for each half.
“The theme of the event is ‘New in time, New in kind’. It is a reflection of a wholesome transformation of the event.
