BY NYARAI GOMIWA Zimbabwean hip-hop and dancehall duo Get Paper Boys, popularly known as GPB, are doing well in South Africa featuring on stage with that country’s popular acts.

GPB have been the opening crew for musicians such as DJ Cleo, Jub Jub, Zuluboy and also wowed attendees at Channel O presenter, Nonhle Thema’s birthday Party last year.

Sean “Young Don” Makomichie and Tyrone “Rudebi-T” Soutter, who both hail from Bulawayo, make up GPB.

“In 2009 our music hit the Johannesburg shores and we were subsequently invited to South Africa. Since then, we have performed at most of Mzansi’s platinum status events,” said Makomichie in an interview with StandardLife&Style.

The duo is also doing well with their first three singles Buk it Up, Gonna Be There and I Just Might which have earned them even more performances. Makomichie said this was only the beginning of “greater things”.

“The music business has afforded us opportunities to venture into business realms that are outside the music industry.”

GPB is working with their management company to produce their second mix tape entitled Da Tour Guide Volume 2. It also features some tracks from their first mix tape, Da Tour Guide Volume 1.

They work under the Willowmead Productions stable which promotes young independent Zimbabwean artists.

“Willomead has afforded us an opportunity to rub shoulders and work with some of Zimbabwe’s finest talent. More work is in the pipeline and these opportunities will make us better artists,” he said.
