Garth, Dudu at Reps

One of South Africa’s most talented young singer-songwriters will perform at Harare’s Reps Theatre this week, backed by his six-piece band, in a show called Swing with Garth Taylor.

Garth Taylor made his debut in 1998 and has had a series of chart hits in his home country and now performs at shows across the world — most recently this weekend, when he and his band have been starring in a concert festival in Thailand.

Swing With Garth Taylor is a concert show that will feature a wide range of songs, including some of his own hits as well as a selection of pop, rock, show and other favourites.

On stage with him will be Dudu Manhenga, whom he has invited to be a guest performer in the show, in keeping with his policy of promoting home-grown talent wherever he appears.

The show will run from Wednesday June 8 to Saturday June 11, with performances at 7pm each night. A preview show on Tuesday June 7 will feature free tickets for pensioners and half-price tickets for others.

Colin Law of AfroAsia Management said Garth Taylor had “become hugely popular in South Africa and is now making strong inroads into the international market, where his talent and style are earning him new fans of all ages.”

Chart successes in South Africa include songs like Why, Only With You, If I Gave You My Soul, Home Again, Tonight and a cover of the country and western hit Islands In The Stream.  Taylor and his band have shared stages with performers such as Simply Red, Shaggy, Jonathan Butler and the late Brenda Fassie.

Last week his management company brought to Zimbabwe the Thai pop opera group, Viva, who met with major positive reaction to their two performances at Reps — and an invitation to return to Zimbabwe in the near future.
