By TINASHE SIBANDA South African-based Zimbabwean artist Enock Guni, popularly known by his fans as “Nox” has collaborated with mbira songstress Chiwoniso Maraire on a wedding song titled Makorokoto featured on his latest offering and traditional compilation Pasichigare.

Nox, who is usually identified with his slow to mid-tempo songs with an R‘n’B feel said  Pasichigare will definitely shock the listeners yet at the same time impress them because of the sudden shift to traditional music.

“Chiwoniso is one of the most talented artists I know in Zimbabwe and working with her was one very good learning experience for me,” said Guni.He added that Maraire was a bubbly character who was always happy and ready to use her creative juices.

Guni said after writing the song he had presented it to Maraire during her visit to South Africa and she was so impressed that she agreed to be part of the collaboration.

“I chose her for that particular song because it is a traditional song which really fits her genre of music and I believe no one else could have done a better job than her,” he said.

Pasichigare is a 10-track album that comprises songs such as  Rwendo, Zvorema and Hurombo, to mention a few.

On this album, Nox worked with other local talented artistes like Tererai Mugwadi, Trevor Dongo and Mono Mukundu on the guitars.

Guni said besides Pasichigare, he has two other albums titled Classic Love Songs and 50 Minutes to Fame which were totally different from each other and certainly ready for release.

“Classic Love Songs has 10 tracks and is mainly composed of slow mid-tempo songs which people are used to hearing from me and 50 Minutes to Fame is an African urban contemporary album with upbeat songs, all in the English language,” said Guni. He said Zimbabweans should also embrace his double eight track album with Alishias “Maskiri” Musimbe, titled Best of Both Worlds.

He said he was also going to specifically send to Zimbabwe his latest videos of Ini Ndada and Andipengesa from his current album titled Zim’s Finest,Tisu Tine Yese which has been performing well on local radio stations.

Songs to look forward to on coming albums

Nox said tracks that fans should expect on Classic Love Songs and 50 Minutes to Fame include Vasikana Vanoda, Iwe Neni featuring Cindy Munyavi, I’m in Love featuring Mucci, one of SA’s hottest  new rappers, Bounce featuring Trinta, Invading my Mind and Fly Away, among others.

He said music on the album 50 Minutes to Fame was in the same genre with P-Square, J Martins and 2face’s music  and the album had impressed Sony Records so that if they were to agree on a few issues, they would be marketing and distributing it soon.

“Before releasing the albums, I will on Thursday release three singles, Vasikana Vanoda, Rwendo and Finest. “So far I have already started shooting videos for about five songs and all of them will be sent straight to Channel O, Mtv Base and Trace TV in the next few weeks,” said Guni.

“I’m hoping Zimbabweans will support me and find my albums interesting,” said Guni.
